Gramms & the Ladybug

When I see a ladybug I can’t help but think about my Gramms. She was a feisty, artistic, free spirited and genuine lady. She told me that if a ladybug is in your presence it’s good luck! “But Where does good luck come from Gramms”, I would ask - “I’m not too sure, but maybe above,” she would say.

She would always insist that finding a LadyBug would mean we should count our blessings and make a wish. looking back now, I realize she was so smart. The thought of being grateful for what we have first, before wishing for so much more, was a valuable life lesson.

She was one of my best friends, she helped raise me when my dad was young. She would garden all day, and let me climb in trees, and eat as many pickles  as I could handle. Cancer took her too soon. Even until the very end, I remember her still being so positive, so grateful, so encouraging for her loved ones. She was truly remarkable.

One thing she left with me though, was the deep contemplation that whenever I saw a ladybug - I still feel like maybe it’s not just a coincidence. Maybe in that exact moment, some work was being done in the stars above for our behalf. I feel her presence in a way. An eye opening reminder to be grateful for the breath I take in that moment, and to always make a wish with my whole heart.

So, to my Gramms and all the powers that may be above, I want to say thank you. Thank you popping by as a reminder to keep our eyes open to little blessings, and answered wishes that that greet us when we least expect it.

With love,

Kelly
